Limestone piers and arches at entranceway to Rittenhouse Plaza were severely damaged by rust from existing steel structure. Stone elements were removed and salvaged. Many new stones were needed as the rusting steel caused cracks to form in the limestone. Replacement stone were each hand carved and provided by Vickery Stone.
Knapp Masonry begins work at the historic Anatomy Chemistry Building at the University of Pennsylvania. Work includes restoration of the parapet wall and installation of new flashing at the roof. After demolition of an adjoining building the Anatomy Chemistry Building was left with toothed corners which are to be blended to give a finished look. Also many decorative entrance limestone are to be replaced.
Knapp Masonry awarded the work at the historic Van Veghten House. Work includes, brick and stone pointing, chimney rebuild and repair, full window restoration, other carpentry repair and paint of exterior wood elements.
Knapp Masonry completes major structural repair of a buckled pilaster at the Frankford Group Ministry. Water damage to masonry backing caused partial failure of pilaster. Work included shoring structure and rebuild of the pilaster plumb and true.
Knapp Masonry finalizes restoration work at the Peachfield Plantation owned by the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America. Work included restoration of the brick patio, bluestone work, inclusion of a new brick ramp for wheelchair accessability, improved drainage system for gutters, new cedar fence made to look as original, pointing of the front walkway and a new dry-laid wall to support the ramp.
Knapp Masonry completes the restoration of the historic Rittenhouse Square Arches on 1901 Walnut Street. This familiar landmark now stands ready to face the 21st century in style!
Knapp Masonry completes major restoration work at the Ellen Phillips Samuel Memorial Sculpture Garden. Flooding from the Schuylkill River caused major damage to the limestone walls, benches and foundation of the granite steps.
Dating back prior to 1700 OId Millstone Forge is still active as an educational shop teaching folks the methods and history of metal work. Knapp Masonry's work on the site included major wall repair and bracing (flooding is common in the area) as well as the reconstruction of the forge and flue. Knapp Masonry is awarded, by the State of New Jersey, the Historic Preservation Award for "The Discovery, Preservation and Commemoration of the Site of the Offices of the Secretary of State and Clerk of the Court." See pictures of the Trenton Demarcation!
Knapp Masonry is awarded by the Township of Lower Merion, the Historical Commission and Historical Architectural Review Board's award for the 2008 Historic Preservation Award for the Pennywise Thrift Shop.
Knapp Masonry is up for a Stevie Award! The American Business Awards are set to announce their 2008 winners. Knapp Masonry is a finalist for Overall Design in the Web Site category. Jennifer Knapp had the vision and Jason O'Mara, of Madison Square Media, turned it into reality! With web site photographs by Matthew Dempler it was complete!
The Trenton Battle Monument, a familiar feature of the Trenton skyline for just over 110 years is getting spruced up! Knapp Masonry is performing a restoration to the base and balcony level. We are repairing all of the joints at the top of the column and at the base. We are also cleaning the base to remove accumulated pollution. The main door is being repaired and the lights are being replaced as well. Check our gallery for pictures of the work in progress!
